In-House Pharmacy
As the prescribing veterinarian for your pet’s medications, we can provide a seamless transition from our exam to medication. This means your pet will receive the right medication, at the right dose, in a timely fashion. We will also be able to guide you on to use the medication and gauge its effectiveness. We want you to feel confident that all the medications we dispense were obtained from safe, reliable U.S. sources and stored correctly.
We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, dental care supplements, shampoos, flea and tick control products, and heartworm preventatives to meet your pet’s needs. We also carry a full line of prescription diets. If your pet requires a prescription diet we do not carry, we can easily order it for you.
Ensuring you have convenient and timely access to competitively priced medications is an important aspect of our veterinary practice.
Refills are easy, too. Simply give us a call or CLICK HERE to request a refill request. Please allow at least 24 hours for us to process your refill.
Nail Trims
Nail trims aren’t always easy. In fact, it can be an art. Having the right training and equipment can make all the difference. We strive to perform nail trims with as little stress as possible. Sometimes, this may mean giving them medicine before they come in to ease anxiety. That’s OK! If you need assistance to safely have your pet’s nails cut, give us a call. Drugs are good!
Health Certificates
Dogs and cats often require health certificates(certified veterinary inspections, or cvi’s) for interstate or international travel. The doctors at Blue Lake are accredited through the USDA and can provide you and your pet assistance in complying with travel requirements. Completing an international health certificate can be a very complex and expensive process depending on the destination. These usually take several hours of time, both on your end, as well as ours.
We encourage you to visit https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel for more information on your pet’s requirements for travel. Be sure to research this far in advance, as certain areas such as Hawaii , the U.K., and Australia have requirements that take greater than 4 months to complete for entrance. Costs of health certificates can range from $80 to over $600, depending on destination requirements. We highly encourage you to research in advance the requirements, especially for international travel. Often, you must travel to Sacramento or San Francisco for an endorsement for international certificates as well. We will be happy to assist you, but ultimately, you are responsible for making sure your pet meets the requirements.
Feline Stress Packs
Some cats HATE travelling, vet’s office or anywhere else! We offer inexpensive stress packs that involve wiping the inside of the carrier, as well as a medication to give prior to travel to take some of the stress away. It’s also helpful to put the carrier out for cats to explore for 2 days prior to travel so it starts to smell like home, so to speak. Catnip in the carrier sometimes attracts cats it, as well.
Dr. Buzby’s Toe Grips
Blue Lake Animal Care Center is proud to be a retailer for these helpful toe grips. These are made of rubber and slip over your pet’s claws to help with traction on hardwood floors and tile in the house, and icy winter conditions outside. We have found these to be a useful tool in many dogs, especially senior pets, amputees, and recent recovering surgical patients. We can apply them in a few minutes here, or send them with you to do in the comfort of your home.
Cremation/Burial
After pet loss, we know it’s important to make careful, thoughtful arrangements for their remains. We use a trusted company in Reno that has been in business for many years, and use them for our own pets. We can arrange remains burial or cremation to whatever suits your needs, and we handle transportation to and from the crematorium back to our office. They offer a grief and support group for counseling pet loss at no charge.
